RETIREMENT: Episode 1 - Hunt of the Scavengers

Frame 1:

The TARDIS in space. (establishing shot)

Frame 2:

Overhead view of the Doctor, in the TARDIS, climbing an infinite number of steps, huffing and wheezing all the way.

Frame 3:

The Doctor reaches the top step an enters the TARDIS corridor to meet Ace who has also just arrived. The Doctor is wiping sweat off his forehead with his handkerchief.

ACE: "Doctor! There you are. Where have you been? I haven't seen you for hours!"

DOCTOR: "You know Ace, I must be nearly an Eon old... As a friend of mine once said, 'There is a time when we are young, and time doesn't matter.'"

ACE: "Oh, deep Doctor, very deep."

Frame 4:

Ace chases the Doctor through TARDIS corridor. He is back-handing some brochures to Ace.

DOCTOR: "It's that time, Ace. What do you think of these?"

ACE: "A travel brochure? 'Junberdayx 5: That comfy home for Galactic Senior who's in the prime of his life?' Where did this come from?"

Frame 5:

The Doctor enters the Console Room along with Ace.

DOCTOR: "It was in the basement. Where I keep all my memories. I have two cars down there you know, I'll have to show them to you some time..."

ACE: "You sound like you're going to someone's funeral or something. What's going on? Is the TARDIS going to crash again?"

Frame 6:

The Doctor's face. (Somehow looking over 7000 years old, but not looking old...)

DOCTOR: "Ace, it's time I retired."

Frame 6-A:

Ace reacts.

Frame 7:

Janberdayx 5: As the TARDIS materializes (Vworps in).

Frame 8:

The Doctor Emerges (from the TARDIS) in bathing trunks, hat, folded parasol, sun-glasses, nose covered in white nose-guard cream, and a folded up sun-chair held by an elbow. Ace is behind him, unchanged and un-enthused.

ACE: "Doctor, stop, this is madness!"

DOCTOR: "My goodness what a beautiful day. Ah, there's a good spot!"

Frame 9:

"A few minutes later..." Side view of the Doctor relaxing in the chair, under the parasol. We see Ace's mid-section showing that she's standing by the Doctor's chair, with her arms impatiently folded.

DOCTOR: "Hum, I could do this for centuries. Isn't this fun, Ace?"

ACE: "loads. Can we go now?"

DOCTOR: "Now, Ace, relax a bit. Say, how'd you like to get me a copy of the local paper?"

Frame 10:

Front of Doctor in chair, as a newspaper has just fallen onto his face.

DOCTOR: "Somehow Ace, I get the feeling you aren't very keen about my reti..."

DOCTOR: "Wait! This is just what we need!"

Frame 11:

The Doctor is sitting on the edge of chair reading from paper. Ace is somewhere, totally disinterested.

DOCTOR: "'Transgalactica masters club hosts first centennial oldster's Scavenger Hunt! Fun and fancy in your golden years. Show others that you're not geriatric yet!' My word Ace, what do you think?"

ACE: "Guess you won't be interested, seeing how you're decrepit and all..."

DOCTOR: "WHAT! I'm not that old! It's just the kind of retirement fair I was looking for."

Frame 12:

As the Doctor franticly starts to pick up his gear (see description in frame 8). Ace is drawing Mr. Yuck faces with her foot in the sand.

DOCTOR: "We'll have to hurry! Sign-up ends in half an hour!"

Frame 13:

"Twenty-seven minutes later..." We see the Doctor in the same dress as frame 8 with the addition of a towel over his shoulders, standing in front of a desk next to a door with the newspaper in hand. Ace is reluctantly tagging along. Sitting behind the desk is a non-descript receptioner (that means he's male...).

DOCTOR: "Is this where we need to be to join the Scavenger Hunt?"

REC.: "Yes. Quickly sign here, the briefing is already beginning."

Frame 13-A:

Same view as frame 13, as we see the Doctor's back as he rushes in. He's left the newspaper on the desk. Ace is bent over signing the form on a clipboard.

DOCTOR: "Ace would you sign it for me? That's a good girl. Thank you"

Frame 14:

Same location, the Doctor has already gone in, Ace is just entering after signing the attendance sheet. The receptioner is holding up the clipboard in one hand checking the name to himself. We see him pushing the discarded newspaper off the desk to the ground in front of it with a pencil (or pen) in his other hand. Now that no-one in standing in front of the desk, we notice a pile of newspapers on the ground...

REC.: Hum. Uncle Mickey & Minnie Mouse...

(No quotes mean thought bubble)

Frame 15-16:

A single wide frame showing several hunters (at least 5) and Count Brundo (a large, very nice and friendly Viking type fellow who looks like he could become very mean at the drop of a hat...). The Doctor has bumped into Brundo (they've previously met) and are getting re-aquainted (with that 'friendly' type feel that only enemies have...) as we see Ace entering the door at one side. At the opposite side is the Hunt coordinator on a stage preparing to talk.

BRUNDO: "Well Doctor! What great fun to see you here! Joining the hunt? I do, so very, hope so."

DOCTOR: "Why, Count Brundo! I'm surprised to see you alive after your little problems..."

BRUNDO: "I'm a survivor Doctor. You of all people should know that. Especially after the situation you left me in."

DOCTOR: "Purely an accident, I assure you."

COORD.: "Attention please! Attention!"

Frame 17:

The group listens to the Coordinator.

COORD.: "Now the rules are very simple. The only rules to this contest are: No Time Travel, it'd be too easy to win that way. And no inter-hunter fighting. No questions? Good!"

COORD.: "Mr. Fingers will be passing out envelopes with your first clue inside. The moment you get it -- you're off!"

Frame 18:

The Doctor is handed an envelope by the receptioner. The Doctor starts to open it. Brundo is not prominently in the frame. Just enough so we know who is saying his line.

DOCTOR: "Ready for our big adventure Ace?"

ACE: "Can I go home now?"

BRUNDO: "Why did I get the last envelope? That's not fair!"

Frame 19:

Showing the card inside of envelope in Doctor's hands. It reads: The splinter of the mind's eye where the Sun no longer Shines.

DOCTOR: "Of course!"

Frame 20:

The TARDIS Vworps into a desolate & dark place. The Doctor walks out in regular cloths holding a flash-light (needed for later perspective...). ACE looks out from the doorway.

ACE: "This place is too spooky..."

DOCTOR: "Now, Ace. There's nothing to be afraid of..." I hope.

Frame 21:

The Doctor and Ace walk about a deserted place of many small buildings with trash and dust everywhere. He shines his flash-light on a sign at the top of a doorway only "ind's Ey" is illuminated by the light.

ACE: "Where are we?"

DOCTOR: "On Happy J. Sunshines' Amusamatoid, or I should say, what was. Here we are!"

Frame 22:

The Doctor steps into the shadows of the doorway with Ace reluctantly behind. The Doctor is pretty much obscured.

DOCTOR: "Watch your step. There should be a light switch somewhere around here..."

ACE: "Amusa-ma-toid? You mean like an Amusement Park?"

DOCTOR: "But on a planetoid instead of a park as it were."

Frame 23:

We only see Ace as she looks around. The Doctor's words appear from off frame.

ACE: "But if its an Amusement Park why is it abandoned? What happen to all the people?"

DOCTOR: "Ah! Here we are -- ACE!!!"

Frame 24:

We see over Ace's shoulder to find the crumpled remains of the Doctor. We can only recognize him by his hat and the flash-light in his hand, but the rest of his body looks like its been crumpled like an accordion. There are presses (hands - shoes - evil Mr. Yuck faces, whatever) on the top of him pushing down, and on both sides. We can tell the Doctor has been smashed because the Doctor is now only twice as tall as his intact flashlight.

ACE: "DOCTOR!"
